My Department

Here is my new department, or at least the faculty in it. 

The New Apartment

Welcome to the virtual tour of my new apartment. I still need to get a couple of pieces of furniture, but it is mostly done.  And I'm still trying to decide which pieces of furniture need to come first, or if I should replace my dying computer first.

This is the master closet, which is large enough to hold all of my clothes, unlike my last pitiful one.  I like that it is walk in because that way I can have all my shoes on the floor for easy access.

 

 

And the master bath. Even though this is the smaller bathroom, it is still bigger than my old one.  The only thing I don't like is it doesn't work with the old way I had of organizing my things.  I'm still trying to decide how to fix that.

Finally, a Car!

She certainly is beautiful, and drives fantastic. But I have to admit, my favorite part is the color, closely followed by the fact that it plays the music from my iPhone over the BlueTooth without me even taking my phone out of my pocket.

Because goodness knows they thought it was freezing out there. I think Mom is wearing every form of cold weather clothing there is.

The Faire!

So, we had a great deal of fun at the Renaissance Faire. I got a crown, which I love. Lisa got her hair braided this year, and Tim finally found a green cloak. He was very excited. I also found some beautiful Celtic jewlery. It was nice to get out and do something fun.

Math PEOPLE

So we have come to the end of the PEOPLE summer session. It has been a crazy three weeks, but certainly enjoyable. And the teachers that I worked with this summer were a lot of fun. Thought you would like to meet them.

The Camera Battery just HAD to die...

So we went sailing today. It was amazing amounts of fun. I'll be posting pictures as soon as my camera battery charges. Because, of course, it had to die just when the real fun started.



We had arrived safely back to land and were putting away the sails when quite suddenly the ground that had previously been under my feet no longer was. I'm quite thankful that our pier is built over rocks instead of over water. Otherwise when I fell through it I would have landed in a large quantity of extremely cold water. Instead I just managed to wedge myself in between the two broken pieces of the pier. Took some finagling to get me out. Sadly, because my camera had only moments before declared its inability to take any more pictures, I do not have photographic evidence of this. It would have been hilarious.

I'll leave it up to your imaginations...

P.S. Wedging yourself in between two pieces of a broken pier really hurts. I'm expecting my entire leg to be black and blue in the morning.

Experiments in Sailing

The teachers I have been working with spent the afternoon testing their math skills by racing sailboats of their own creation. There were quite a few interesting, not to mention hilarious, things that resulted from this. Enjoy the pictures.

The Windy City

Last Saturday I went with two friends to go and play in Chicago. We spent most of the day in the Chicago Institute of Art and then went to the Sear's Tower and Navy Pier, an carnival area. It was great fun to finally get to do some of the touristy things in Chicago. Usually when I go I have a specific thing to see and don't have time for much else.

We got to ride the Ferris Wheel as the sun was setting. It gave us a great view of the Lake and the City Skyline.

Serat's Sunday on La Grande Jatte. It is one of my favorite pieces of art housed by the Chicago Institute of Art. (Unfortunately, my favorite was in storage when we went. Just means I'll have to go back some time.)

The most unusal fountain I have ever seen. We stood around for 30 minute so we could see the water come out of their mouths. The rest of the time the two faces just sat there smiling and blinking. Very weird.

A trip to Chicago is never complete without getting your picture reflected in the Bean. Chicago really does have some of the weirdest pieces of art. There was also a giant red dinasour and a large statue that I'm fairly sure was obscene...

So I saw this at one of my favorite yarn stores and just had to share. It was too cute.

Tree!

I finally get to have my own Christmas tree. We cut it down ourselves and everything. It made it seem like Christmas time finally. Usually I miss out on so much since I don't get home until right before Christmas. This way I can still celebrate.

Lisa's Craziness

So I have a roommate who is perpetually hot. This makes things interesting since I am perpetually cold. Here was her solution on Sunday.

Trans-Siberian

So for my Christmas present, Lisa bought me two tickets to Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I went with my friend Emily from Church. And it was absolutely fantastic. We were sitting on the very top row and you could still feel the heat from the fire bursts. I think I am going to have to make a yearly tradition of going.

The place they performed in was huge. I think it is about the size of the conference center. And yet the sound was still fantastic. It definitely put me in the Christmas mood.
